First Young Adult Novel Sold in a Two-Book Deal

I was thrilled to sell my first Young Adult novel to Harlequin Teen. Executive editor Mary-Theresa Hussey bought In the Arms of Stone Angels in a two-book deal with the second book to be named and defined later. In the Arms of Stone Angels is an edgy YA suspense book about a dark and angry 16-year old girl dealing with the aftermath of being the only witness to the murder of a young girl three years ago. She's forced to return to the small town where it happened and face people who believe she is as guilty as the half-breed Native American boy who was found at the scene—a boy now locked away in a mental hospital, trapped in his past as she is. This book is set in Oklahoma and librarian Susan Johnson of the Sapulpa library helped me research the Euchee tribe, featured in the book. She's in charge of the Native American Collection at the library. Thanks, Susan.

More Sweet Justice—Another Sale to Avon

In a continuation of the Sweet Justice series, Avon Books has bought book #4 Reckoning for the Dead, anticipated for release in 2011. Bounty hunter Jessie Beckett's past casts a dark shadow over her future when her DNA turns up as part of a cold case in Wisconsin—evidence in a murder investigation that was committed before Jessie was abducted by an infamous serial pedophile in Illinois when she was only a child. The evidence forces her to deal with her dark past and the tainted memory of a mother she never knew. This book will also involve Alexa Marlowe who becomes embroiled in the mysterious disappearance of her boss, Garrett Wheeler, leader of the covert vigilante group she works for, the Sentinels. There's plenty of conspiracy in this book to fuel the series. Stay tuned.

My New Book Trailer

Bounty hunter Jessie Beckett lets her Colt Python do all her talking. And she gives Lady Justice a whole new reason to wear blinders in THE WRONG SIDE OF DEAD (Nov 09). The talented filmmaker John Schimke of NovelShoutMedia created this amazing trailer and I couldn't be more thrilled. John is a rising star in the film industry and is branching out into book trailers. Check out his website.

Double The Fun!

I was really excited to hear that NO ONE LIVES FOREVER was a finalist in the Mainstream Category of the Daphne Du Maurier Contest, hosted by the RWA Kiss of Death (KOD) online Mystery/Suspense chapter. And NO ONE LEFT TO TELL was also a finalist in the Single-title category. A double final!! Winners will be announced in July 2009 at RWA nationals in Washington DC. A HUGE awards event is put on by KOD with a Death by Chocolate party to start the celebration. Chocolate and awards. What's not to love?! There is stiff competition in these categories, with many of the other authors being friends, but it is truly an honor just to be in their esteemed company. I feel like a winner already... even without the chocolate.

A Podcast Memory from New York City & Thrillerfest 2008

As a new author, I was thoroughly excited to participate in a podcast with the great thriller authors from HarperCollins—James Rollins, Kathryn Fox, Sarah Langan, Vicki Petterssen, and yours truly. Needless to say, I was a little star struck but we shared some laughs as we talked about writing and the mass-market paperback book.

The background noise you will hear a little later in the broadcast came from the growing crowd from Thrillerfest held in New York City, an amazing conference that brings readers and authors together. But the crowd was hard to filter out. They hadn't had their coffee yet.

Great New Book Endorsements from NYT Bestselling Authors

It never ceases to amaze me how generous other authors are in this industry. And I've gotten great responses from authors to "blurb" or endorse my next release—Evil Without a Face. Two authors I greatly admire consented and I've included an advance sneak peek of their endorsements.

"No One" Series Has A Face

And Back To Back Never Looked So Good—Judging a book by its cover is not normally the thing to do, but with the beautiful stepback covers Avon has designed for this series, I'd say go right ahead. Click on the link below the covers on each book page (NO ONE HEARD HER SCREAM, NO ONE LEFT TO TELL, and NO ONE LIVES FOREVER) to catch a look at the inside artwork. My First Review

I've never gotten a professional review of my work, so as you might imagine, I was sweating it—especially Publishers Weekly. They are big and the publishing industry is very much aware of their review presence. But I received my PW review this weekend and I couldn't be more thrilled to be compared to the likes of some of my favorite authors—Lisa Jackson, Lisa Gardner and Tami Hoag. And I wanted to share the good news with you, my friends.

Publishers Weekly, 12/10/2007

No One Heard Her Scream
Jordan Dane. Avon, $6.99 (384p) ISBN 978-0-06-125278-5
"...a dynamite debut... Dane's smooth style, believable characters and intense pacing will remind readers of Lisa Jackson, Lisa Gardner and Tami Hoag. While Dane's debut is being marketed as romantic suspense, it crosses over into plain thriller country: the tight plotting and the male characters are exceptional, bad guys and good."

Special thanks to the judges and contest coordinators at RWA's Sacramento Valley Rose chapter.

First Kill

Ah, they say you never forget your first and I'm here to tell you that's exactly right.

The International Thriller Writers have adopted a Debut Authors Program affectionately known as "First Kill", just another great benefit to being an ITW member. "Virgin" authors get one chance at launching their debut book, because once the ship sails, it is gone, baby. I feel very fortunate to be a part of the maiden voyage of First Kill.

Under the guidance of talented New York Times bestseller Lee Child, the ITW Debut Authors Program provides a forum for mutual support and expert help for first time authors from published ITW members. It also offers the opportunity for extra exposure on the ITW website's Debut Author Page, at national conferences, and during ITW's own ThrillerFest conference.

And come check out our newly minted First Kill blogs at Crimespace and MySpace. Plus, ITW has generously provided a Debut Authors page on their website to showcase the program and its authors.

First Foreign Sale

Great News! Avon has secured my first foreign rights sale to Blanvalet, a division of Random House. All three books in my first series will be translated into German to be published abroad by this fantastic house. Sprechen Sie Deutsch? Another 3-Book Series Sold

Jordan Dane sold another 3-book series to Avon HarperCollins, negotiated by literary agent Meredith Bernstein. A good deal! No release dates or book titles as yet. Stay tuned. More to come!

An illusive web of imposters on the Internet lures a deluded teen from her Alaskan home and launches a chain reaction collision course with an unlikely tangle of heroes. This is the initial driver to a new 3-book series from suspense author Jordan Dane and Avon HarperCollins. With an international setting, these romantic thrillers will focus on the lives and loves of three women—a bounty hunter operating outside the law, an ambitious vice cop, and a former international operative with a mysterious past.

Want to learn more about Jordan and the shadowy world that keeps her up nights? Check out these interviews:
